You may have seen events unfold this morning on the docks of Southampton. Two sailors were shot, and sadly LtCdr Ian Molyneux died as a result of his injuries.
The Telegraph has the most fact-filled article on the matter, naming the shooter as Able Seaman Ryan Donovan and the second victim as LtCdr Chris Hodge.
In recent years the Fort Hood, Derek Bird, and Raoul Moat shootings, have hit communities both military and civilian. It may be my age, but i don't remember incidents like these really happening in my younger years, other than Hungerford in 1987 and Dunblane in 1996.
I am starting to think that firearms should be illegal, full stop. If we can't trust our military with them, who can we trust.

I feel sorry for the sailors on HMS Astute, they have gone from crisis to crisis since being handed over to the navy in August 2010. In October it ran aground. In December Astute broke down and had to return to port. April 2011, a shooting.
